About Melissa

I am an analytical/experienced multimedia journalist, community builder, content strategist, and event planner passionate about travel, food, art, and green living.

Currently based in the Bay Area, I work as a Worldwide Community Manager for Apple. I work with a widespread, interdisciplinary team of writers, instructional designers, videographers, and publishers. Through project coordination, global community building, and content strategy, I drive and deliver business objectives, boost engagement, and thrive under tight deadlines while producing vibrant and compelling training and communication materials, inspirational videos, and thought leadership pieces.

Previously I worked at Zipcar managing their online magazine called Ziptopia, I led a team of writers, art directors, photographers, and videographers—both in-house and freelance—to craft each new post to perfection; highlights include an exclusive interview with NASA’s social media team, collaborations with Google and JetBlue, and a video highlighting Downtown Las Vegas’s emerging innovation scene. Previous journalistic triumphs include investigative reporting on the healthfulness of school lunches related to childhood obesity, as well as numerous alternative music reviews and interviews (with accompanying live performance photography).

A California native, I earned a master’s degree in Journalism from Harvard Extension School and a bachelor’s degree in American Culture and Literature from UCLA.

When not writing, engaging in social media, taking photos, or hosting professional events, I can be found exploring new hiking spots. Experienced, adept, creative, and strategy-savvy, I am ever eager to embark upon new challenges, and ready to work at a moment’s notice.
